I learned that today the Beta programme is off and running for the Ariya. My Hypervolt 3.0 CP is also compatible. I wasn't able to immediately switch but have filled out the appropriate forms and ticked the boxes so hopefully will be contacted once it is officially ready to go.

Click on "will it work for me."
It's been like that for months, when I tried a couple of months ago, there was no option to choose Ariya. It was a only to select few beta testers.

I switched to Octopus Intelligent Go yesterday after I saw they now support Nissan, in beta.

Results have not been good.

When you go through onboarding it asks for your Nissan Connect login, and then tests connectivity. That all took about 15mins and I was then moved to the new tariff.

BUT the problem seems to be how Octopus schedules the charge windows.

Take tonight for example. I plugged it in at 23:15, after 5 minutes of charging the Octopus backend kicked in. It stopped the charge session (as expected/ intended) and created tonight's charge schedule.

You can see that attached 00:30 to 06:30

However the battery charging window it sent to my Ariya is 10:12 to 22:20 !?

There's absolutely no correlation. I fully expect the Octopus App to send me a notification that it couldn't connect to my "device" (their generic terminology) at 00:30.

I might have to create my own charging schedule, and hopefully it's not removed, I did read that any user schedules will override theirs.

No, octopus wouldn't add anything to your car / car app charging schedule

So you must have unknowingly activated a charging schedule in car or app.

Try deletingt/turning them off in the car.

As I said I would update once I was on the IOG charging tariff. It took several attempts to contact Octopus but eventually someone from the IOG team contacted me today. It seems that despite my attempts at what they called "onboarding" they hadn't registered me. Once the account was registered to the IOG system it was a breeze to set up.

You use the Octopus app to set up the car and charger then it does a test connection. If all goes well then you will see in the app the charging schedule for that day. At one point I did have to log out and log back in again for everything to be properly registered and showing it was but apart from that it worked first time.

As you can see it is plugged in and charging (Octopus Mode) in my Hypervolt app, during the day but at the night time rate of 7p. Happy days. Next charging session is 7:30 to 8:00 pm then it will take it up to the 95% I want from 8:30 pm to 8:00 am tomorrow, whichever comes first.

We've been using this new tariff from Octopus Energy for a few weeks now, and it's working really well. We did previously have a PodPoint 7kW charger installed but had it taken out again because it never worked properly, and we didn't replace it because we realised that - being retired, so neither of us has to commute to/from work - the 3kW "granny" charging lead was slow but fast enough.

For those of you thinking about the new tariff, it's called "Intelligent Octopus Go", and put simply it can control the car's charging system via Nissan Connect Services. Relevant points that aren't necessarily obvious when we started researching this:
  • This tariff can only be provided if you have a smart electricity meter or agree to have one fitted (free of charge from Octopus);
  • If you need to top-up your charge at any time, you can override the charging through the Octopus app ("bump charging") although then you pay the normal rate per kWh;
  • The charger should be connected before (or during) the off-peak period 23h30 to 05h30: the car will charge for a minute or two - don't worry, all charging is measured remotely and that usage will always be charged at the off-peak rate - and then the Octopus app will show the allocated off-peak charging periods depending on their calculations about what will be the optimal time or times;
  • If, for whatever reason, you want to set a limit on the charge, you can set this on the app, right up to full 100% battery charge;
  • Strictly speaking, Octopus can change these allocated off-peak charging slots dynamically, but we've found that these are generous and we've never had the overall total reduced. In fact, it has occasionally started charging before 23h30 but such usage is still charged at the off-peal rate - remember, they know from the car telemetry data exactly how much electricity has been used and when.
Finally, an added bonus is that most modern dishwashers, washing machines, and tumble dryers provide a "delayed start" facility - set them to come on after 23h30 and these will all use hugely cheaper energy, as well as your EV. For us, 7p/kWh means an EV electricity cost of around 2p/mile!
